Chapter 20

"How does that sound?" Darren asked after reading off our entire report about the bottle rocket. I wasn't paying any attention to him. The subject was so boring to me.
"Yeah." I answered smiling.
"Do you want to demonstrate or read for our presentation?" He asked.
"What?" I asked.
"Well you don't expect me to do both. Do you?" He said.
I sighed. "I didn't know we had to do a presentation."
"He told us that when he gave us the assignment." He said.
"I guess I'll demonstrate." I said.
He laughed.
"What?" I asked.
"I think I better demonstrate." He said.
"Why?"
"Just trust me on this." He said. "I'll demonstrate while you read."
The bell rang. I stood up and stormed off down the hall. I heard Darren call after me, but I ignored him. What was he trying to say? That I am uncapable of demonstrating how to build the stupid rocket? God, I was pissed! I ran towards the back of the gym and sat down against the wall.
"Cigar girl." I heard a soft female voice say.
I looked over and a girl was walking towards me. She was smoking a cigarette. She threw her cigarette onto the ground when she got to me and put her foot on top of it. I just smiled at her.
"Everything okay?" She asked.
"Yeah." I nodded.
"Cigarette?" She asked holding out a pack in her hand.
"No." I said shaking my head.
"Okay." She said. "I'll see you around."
She walked away swaying her hips back and forth. She was dressed kind of sleezy and she didn't look like someone I would want to be associating with. I felt my phone vibrating in my purse, so I looked at it. Jordan was calling. I ignored the call. He left a message, but I didn't check it.

After school, I practically ran out to where Carla was waiting for our ride. I didn't want to run into Jordan or Darren.
"Whoa, praticing for a marathon?" Aaron asked laughing as he walked up next to me.
"Yeah." I said annoyed.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing. I'm just frustrated. I'll get over it." I said.
"Jordan said you avoided him all day." He said.
"I was busy all day." I said.
"He switched his lunch period to yours." He said.
"Why?" I asked.
"So he could have lunch with you." He said.
I sighed.
"If you don't like him, break it off." He said rudly.
Kim pulled up and we all hopped into the car.
"Did you hear me, Lor?" Aaron said.
"Yes. Geez!" I said.
"Leave her alone." Carla told him.
"No. She screwing around with Jordan and I want to know why." He said.
"I am not!" I said. I felt like I was going to cry.
"Drop it, Aaron." Kim said pointing at him.
He was quiet the rest of the way home. When we got there, he stormed up the stairs.
"Everything okay, sweetie?" Kim asked as she put her arm around me.
I smiled and nodded. "I'll be okay." I said.
"Good." She said smiling back.
I went up to my room and locked the door. I felt my phone vibrating again as I was about to set down my purse. It was Jordan again. I sighed and answered it.
"Hey you." He said.
"Hi."
"I missed you today." He said.
I giggled.
"Can I come over?" He asked.
"Um, I actually have a lot of homework." I said.
"Me too. We can hang out and do our homework together." He said.
"Okay." I said softly.
"Lor? Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah." I lied.
"I'll bring a pizza." He said.
"Thanks."
"See you soon." He said and hung up.
"Damnit." I said.
I didn't feel like dealing with anyone.
"Loralai! You have a visitor!" Kim shouted.
"What?! Already?!" I said frustrated. I ran downstairs. I stopped when I saw Darren standing at the front door with yellow roses.
Kim smiled at me and left the room. I sighed. I couldn't help but smile though. "Darren, you didn't have to get me flowers because I. . ." I started to say before he interrupted me.
"I was wrong." He said. "You do the demonstration." He held out the flowers. I took them from him and held them up to my nose. They smelled so good. "Nobody has ever gotten me flowers before." I said.
He smiled. "First one to tell you you were beautiful. First one to get you flowers. Wow. Am I on a roll or what?"
I giggled. I went to the kitchen with the flowers. Kim took them from me and put them in a vase with water.
"Jordan's on his way over." I told Darren as I walked back out to him.
He started walking up the stairs. "Five minutes?" He asked.
I smiled. "Fine."
I followed him up to my room. I closed the door. "Five minutes. Starting. . . now." I said looking at my watch.
He laughed.
He just stood there staring at me.
"What is it?" I giggled.
He pulled out a small stack of folded papers from his back pocket.
"I need you to um. . . help me with my lines." He said handing me some of the sheets.
"What?" I laughed. It looked like a movie script. "You're in a play?"
"Yeah."
"Okay. . ." I giggled.
"Read. You be Bella." He said.
"This is going to take just five minutes?" I asked.
He nodded with a very serious look on his face.
I looked down and began to read. "Clark, I told you." I said dramatically. I giggled.
"What did you tell me?" He asked.
"Oh, you forgot already?"
"Tell me again." He said.
"I need you. I've been waiting for you."
"Waiting for what?" He asked.
"For you to kiss me." I giggled when I read it.
"I'm ready now." He said.
I read the next line. Clark gives Bella a long passionate kiss. I giggled. I looked up at him. He still had a very serious look on his face.
"Well?" He said.
"What?"
"You're suppose to kiss me." He said.
"No. It says right here that Clark kisses Bella." I said.
He grabbed me and pulled me up to his chest. He leaned down and started kissing me. He was being kind of rough. He threw himself back onto the bed, taking me right down with him. "Whoa, Darren. What is this?" I asked.
He just looked at me and without saying anything, he just started kissing me again.
